Summer in the Psalms, Part 3

SUMMER IN THE PSALMS
The Power of Praise
June 30, 2024 | By Paul Crouthamel

Praise helps us. Without praise our hearts are left to be captured by the struggles of everyday life. In the moments where life may be beating us down, making the decision to praise from a surrendered heart lifts us and restores us.

MESSAGE NOTES

Praise helps us.

Psalm 146:1-2
Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

1. Praise is a call to worship authentically.

2. Praise is a decision of a surrendered heart.

3. Praise is anchored in God’s faithfulness.

Psalm 146:3-6
Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God. He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— he remains faithful forever.

Who or what is the current focus of your life?

Psalm 146:7-10
He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets prisoners free, the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. The Lord reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord.

4. Praise restores hope in our hearts.

How is your heart?

Psalm 147:3
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Psalm 147:6
the LORD sustains the humble…

Psalm 147:10-11
His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior; the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.

Psalm 148:13-14
Let them praise the name of the LORD, for His name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens. And he has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his faithful servants, of Israel, the people close to his heart. Praise the Lord.

Is the praise of the only One who can save on your lips?

Psalm 150:6
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!
