God at Work, Part 4

GOD AT WORK
Whatever You Do
March 5, 2023 | By Legin Anderson

Have you ever wondered: “Why on earth am I here?” or “What is my purpose in life? One of the most significant ways to ensure our lives count for something is in and through our work. Our calling in life and work is to discover how God wants to use us uniquely to serve others and make a difference in His world.

MESSAGE NOTES

Colossians 3:17 (NIV)
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

God desires to use you right where you are and where you’re going for His glory and our good.

Colossians 3:17 (NIV)
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Your work matters.

Ephesians 2:8-10 (NIV)
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Our work is a key way to offer our lives and talents to God and others.

Comparison clouds consecration.

You always have the opportunity to share the Gospel in or through your work.

Your work is holy if it’s set apart for the Lord.

1 Corinthians 3:11-15 (NIV)
For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.

Your work matters.

How do you determine what you should be doing?

Passion + Pain = Purpose

1. What is something you really love to do?
2. What is something you really hate to see?
3. Do the thing you love to combat the thing you hate.

The intersection of your passion and your pain may be your purpose.

Passion + Pain = Purpose

Make sure you fully place your faith and work in the Lord.

Examine how you can better magnify Christ in your work.

Investigate your passion, pain, and purpose.

Colossians 3:17 (NIV)
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
