NOTES

If Jesus is the key to understanding the story of the Bible, what story is the Bible trying to tell?

Bible means “book”

Contributing Factors to Scripture
1. Inspiration

2 Timothy 3:14-17
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

2 Peter 1:21
For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Inspiration is God revealing Himself and/or His purposes to men and women who recorded the revelation in a way that made sense to them as the author and to their original audience.

Peter Enns
“God lets His people tell His story.”

Contributing Factors to Scripture
2. Inerrancy

In its original manuscripts, both the Old Testament and New Testament are without error.

The Story of the Bible
1. Creation
2. Fall
3. Exile
4. Israel
5. Jesus
6. The Church
7. Eternity

Dr. Van Pelt
“The kingdom of God (or heaven) constitutes the thematic framework for the bible, both Old and New Testaments. This is the theme that comprehends and encompasses every other theme encountered in the Scriptures. It unites, coheres, stabilizes, and shapes all other biblical themes and concepts.”
