When Life Feels Impossible
March 9, 2025 | By Paul Crouthamel

When the storm rages and the waves rise, Jesus meets you in your impossible moment with His steady presence. Just as He walked on water to reach the disciples, He steps into your fear, reminding you that you are never alone.

MESSAGE NOTES

Matthew 14:22
Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowd.

John 6:16-21
When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened. But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.” Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.

Matthew 14:24
…buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

Mark 6:48
He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them.

John 6:18
A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough.

Jesus isn’t only at work in the sign/miracle, He is at work in the moments before and after the miracle.

But sometimes impossible moments come directly by the hand of God so that He can:
1. Orchestrate some kind of change in us, and…
2. Reveal Himself to us in the midst of the change.

Matthew 14:27
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.

Matthew 14:27-33
“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

No one on the boat was looking for Jesus, but that doesn’t mean that Jesus wasn’t interested and aware of their impossible moment.

1. Press in to the One who is Lord over the moment.
2. Trusting in the will of God for our life instead of our will.
3. Reach up when you slip up.
