Practicing the Way of Jesus Together, Part 1

PRACTICING THE WAY OF JESUS TOGETHER
Abide. Align. Act.
August 22, 2021 | By Paul Crouthamel

What makes the Church unique is not that we have a mission statement, but that ours came directly from the mouth of Jesus. We are a local church committed to that mission, or as we like to say it: Practicing the Way of Jesus Together.

Abide, Align, and Act

Colossians 2:6
Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.

Colossians 1:9-14
And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord fully pleasing to Him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have the redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:15-20
He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions, or rulers or authorities – all things were created through him and for him. And He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent. For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on the earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross.

Colossians 2:6,7
Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him. Rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

An authentic church comes from authentic people who have an authentic relationship with Jesus.

1. Abiding in Jesus

John 15:4
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.

John 15:5
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

John Mark Comer
“We desire the life of Jesus without adopting the lifestyle of Jesus.”

2. Aligning our life with Jesus.

3. Acting on Jesus’ Word.

Matthew 7:21-27
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.
