In the Fullness of Time, Part 2

IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME
Patience
November 23, 2025 | By Paul Crouthamel

Waiting is one of the hardest parts of life — especially when we feel stuck, uncertain, or desperate for change. In this message, Pastor Paul unpacks Psalm 130 and shows how God uses seasons of delay to form patience, deepen trust, and reshape our hearts in the fullness of His timing. If you’re in a place of waiting, this message will help you see that God is working even when you can’t see it yet.

MESSAGE NOTES

Galatians 4:4
‘But when the fullness of time came, God sent His Son . . .’

Psalms 130:1
Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;

Psalm 130:2-8
Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.

Patience
the active, unyielding confidence that God is working—even when we don’t see it or understand it — and the faithful willingness to align our life to His timing, not our own.

1. Waiting with Trust

James 5:10-11
‘Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.’

2. Wait in Humility

1 Timothy 1:15-16
‘Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners – of who I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display (watch this) his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.

3. Waiting with Obedience

Psalm 130:4-6
But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

James 5:7-8
‘Be patient then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield it’s valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.’

Eugene Peterson
‘a long obedience in the same direction.’

4. Wait with hope

Psalm 130:7-8
“Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.

Romans 5:1-8
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Robert Wilkin
“The singular mark of patience is not endurance or fortitude but hope. To be impatient…is to live without hope. Patience is grounded in the resurrection. It is life oriented toward a future that is God’s doing, and its sign is longing, not so much to be released from the ills of the present, but in anticipation of the good to come.”

Holy Spirit forms in you as you wait in trust, wait in humility, wait in obedience, and wait in hope.

1. In your waiting this morning, where is God calling you to trust Him?
2. In your waiting, how is God calling you to walk in humility?
3. In your waiting, where is God calling you to obey?
4. In your waiting, what is blinding you from the hope Jesus brings?
