We invite you to learn more about our beliefs at Seven Marks Church. In everything we do, we act according to these beliefs as a church body.
There is one true God who exists eternally as one essence in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He created all things for His glory and holds all things together. God is love and desires a relationship with mankind.
We believe that Jesus is God. He became human to reveal God to the world and restore mankind’s relationship with the Father. He lived a perfect life and died a sacrificial death on the cross to pay the price for man’s sin. Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead conquering sin, death, and the grave. He is the only means of a relationship with the Father, who offers forgiveness and new life to all those who trust in Jesus by faith. Jesus is now seated at the right hand of the Father, exercising His rightful authority over heaven and earth as both Lord and Savior.
The Holy Spirit is God. He convicts people of sin and opens their hearts and minds to the need for a Savior. The Spirit is God’s gift to every individual believer, and He empowers the Church to carry out the mission of Jesus to make disciples of all nations.
We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God. It was written and compiled by men who were filled by the Spirit of God in their efforts, and is therefore without error in all that it affirms. The Bible, along with Jesus and creation, is God’s revelation of Himself to the world.
We believe that Jesus was the only sufficient payment for our sin debt and is the sole basis for our forgiveness of sin. Salvation is God’s free gift on the basis of His grace alone, and is received through our faith in Christ alone.
We believe that human beings were created in the image of God with the purpose of glorifying Him and exercising wise rule over creation. Mankind rejected God and His purposes for us through sinful rebellion. As a result, we are totally incapable of having a relationship with God and fulfilling our purpose for existence by our own efforts.
We believe the church is not a building, but rather the people of God. Its members are those from every tribe, tongue, and nation who have put their faith in Jesus. The purpose of the Church is to glorify God by working on behalf of His Kingdom in this world and by making disciples of all nations.
Followers of Jesus are to be known by their obedient love for God and their self-giving love for others. Through surrendered yielding to the Spirit of God, and daily effort, every believer is becoming more like Jesus.
