All The Feels, Part 2

ALL THE FEELS
Go Back to Move Forward
November 7, 2021 | By Paul Crouthamel

One of the best gifts we can give to ourselves and the future generations of our family is to ‘go back’ so that we can deal with the patterns of sin and the emotional fallout that exists in us so that we don’t pass it on to those who come after us.

NOTES

Who you are has been shaped by where you came from.

Pete Scazzero

“It’s impossible to be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature.”

There is not a perfect family on the planet because there are no perfect people on the planet.

Genesis 12:11,12

When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, “I know that you are a woman beautiful in appearance, and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me, but they will let you live.13 Say you are my sister, that it may go well with me because of you, and that my life may be spared for your sake.”

Genesis 47:9

“The days of the years of my sojourning are 130 years. Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their sojourning.”

Who you are has been shaped by where you came from.

Pete Scazzero

“Regardless of our culture, country of origin, education, social class, or age, the early messages and scripts we took in from our histories powerfully influence our present relationships, and behaviors as well as our self-esteem.”

Exodus 34:6,7

The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.

Exodus 34:7

But who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.

– God holds us accountable for our own sin.
– Sin of the past messes with the present and future.
– Sin runs in families.
– The sin of the past does not have to define our future.

Going Back to Move Forward
– Remember that God is sovereign.
– We do the practical work of looking back and capturing our history.
– We forgive and move forward.
